Are There Bots In Fortnite?

If you’ve ever watched a Fortnite stream, you’ve probably heard someone refer to bots. If you have played other multiplayer games, you may be confused.

After all, those games have AI-driven characters that are generally used to fill games. If you’re not into the streaming scene, you might even start to wonder if Fortnite actually has bots in the game.

The Quick Answer

The quick answer to this question, of course, is that Fortnite doesn’t have one. While many similar games may have computerized characters, everyone who plays Fortnite is a real person.

There are actually some really good arguments that Fortnite needs bots in some sort of training mode, but so far Epic doesn’t really see their addition as something that would be added to the game.

As long as Fortnite remains in its current format, every character you play with will be controlled by someone else in a different part of the world. Many streamers call players on the Fortnites bot, usually as an insult.

Streamer Insults

When they refer to players as bots, they mean the usual role of bots in multiplayer games, as basic cannon fodder that allows players to collect kills. When you hear a streamer call a player a bot, the streamer is actually saying that the player is bad at the game and essentially exists to help other players show that they are good at the game.

If you’re routinely knocked out in the first few seconds of a game, don’t be surprised to be called a bot. Despite streamer jokes, there are no bots in Fortnite.

However, there are many unqualified players who basically serve the same purpose. Fortnite may once have real AI-controlled squad members, but today’s bots are just people who haven’t discovered the game yet.
