How to Setup Fortnite Custom Matchmaking

Fortnite is a game that embraces a sense of randomness. If you don’t have masks, your appearance is random.

When you enter a match without friends, your team or duo is random. You even collect random weapons from random locations.

Some players think it would be nice to have a little more control over the game.

One of the most requested features in custom matchmaking, allowing large groups to create their own matches. The good news is that this is in the game.

The bad news is that it is very difficult to access for most players, but that could change in the future.

The Custom Matchmaking Key

Epic is very aware that players might need custom matchmaking for a number of reasons.

For example, it can be useful for tournaments or parties, or it can help certain streamers increase their audience.

This is why there is currently a Custom Match option in the lower right corner of the screen that allows players to enter a match that can be highly customized by the person who has the key.

There are very few limits to customization options once you have a wrench. For example, you can limit the player’s choice of skins, or even allow only certain types of weapons to appear in the game.

The big advantage, however, is that you can decide for yourself who plays and who doesn’t: only players who receive the matchmaking key have the opportunity to participate in the game.

This ensures that only certain people can play in a match, allowing streamers to reward fans or tournament organizers to ensure that only those who have paid the entry fee can access the game while it is being played.

The problem with custom matchmaking at the moment, though, is that it is very limited.

To create a custom match, you need to get permission from Epic.

You can imagine that the company does not just hand over the keys to everyone. Right now, the keys are largely limited to top streamers and a handful of tournament organizers around the world.

You can always try to email Epic and ask for your own key, but there’s virtually no chance you’ll get a response. At the moment things are in a testing phase and it doesn’t look like this will change anytime soon.

However, there is a bright light at the end of this tunnel. The current word is that custom matchmaking will be available to everyone at some point in the future, so you’ll just have to wait for Epic to decide the feature is ready.

There’s a good chance this feature will hit PC before it hits consoles, but you can expect a pretty small gap between the two types of releases once the feature hits the public. All infrastructure seems to be in place, Epic just has to give the green light.

Custom matchmaking is here. While most gamers don’t have access to the feature, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

In Conclusion

If you really want to use custom matchmaking, just do the logical and get a few million followers when you stream the game. Once you’ve done this, Epic will be happy to help you create your own custom combinations.

Until that happens though, you’ll have to wait with everyone else for Epic to open the feature for all game owners.
