Just a few years ago, Logitech had achieved incredible success with its Proteus Core gaming mouse. This thing looked absolutely badass and had the gigs to match!
That is why this is one of the most popular gaming mice used by professional Fortnite players like Ninja.
Seriously, I know because I’m old enough to remember the time this just hit the shelves, and let me tell you something, it made big waves in our small community.
Since then, there have been many discussions and many people have argued that this mouse isn’t exactly an ideal solution for gamers, due to its complicated design, but guess what, it’s still at the top of the game to this day! Even people who are from our world stop to have a look from time to time and marvel at the design of the space age.
Today, Logitech has even found a way to improve upon the original design! I’m talking about the powerful G502 Proteus Spectrum, a device that looks a bit like its predecessor, but brings all kinds of improvements.
Let’s dig a little deeper into some details!
Logitech G502 Specs and Features

- Improved optical game sensor
- Highly adjustable balance and weight
- Fully customizable RGB lighting that supports up to 16.8 million colors

Logitech G502 Size and Weight
At 132 x 75 x 40 mm, this mouse is fairly comfortable to hold. I’ve heard some stories of players with exceptionally large hands claiming that some sharp corners can take their toll after longer playing sessions, but take it from a guy who can throw a basketball without a hitch, I’ve yet to find myself with that. issues.
On the contrary, the textured rubber grips make this mouse really comfortable to use.
In terms of weight, the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum weighs 121 grams. It’s not hard to see this putting it at the top of the table, especially when compared to some of its competitors.
Still, no one can deny that this powerful device feels like a quality product in the hand.
Logitech is known for its customizable devices, and this mouse is no different. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that it comes with a set of 5 weights at 3.6 grams each, so you can easily add some extra weight to this unit.
If you want to add weight, just remove the magnetic cover on the bottom and assemble as many pieces as you want.
You can try different settings depending on your personal preferences. When it comes to my own experience, I’ve found that I get the best results when I add two pieces in the middle, as I like to keep the mouse as balanced as possible.
Adding weight won’t affect performance, but the user experience will be a little different, so don’t be surprised if the new settings take some getting used to.
Logitech G502 Design
When it comes to looks, the Spectrum has a mostly matte finish, but there are a few shimmery bits here and there to accentuate the sharp curves. The only major difference is found in the scroll wheel, which has a dark gray tint, breaking up the all-black, dull look of this device.
If you look at the images, you probably noticed that this thing has a glossy Logitech logo and three stripes. In case you were wondering, yes, the colors can be changed in the menu and you can choose from 16 million combinations to find the one that fits your needs perfectly.
IMHO, I’d say the Logitech designers made it look expensive. That’s probably what they were looking for after all.
Logitech G502 Software
If you like to play with settings and arrange everything down to the last detail, then the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is the mouse for you. Just install the software and you’ll have access to tons of options to customize and customize this mouse to your heart’s content. The mouse has built-in memory, so you can save your settings directly on it, or on your computer.
One of the first settings most users are likely to try is the DPI range. In total you can choose from 5 different levels.
Another great feature of this software is the fact that once the software is installed, it will automatically scan your computer and look at all installed games. Why does it do that?
Well, it allows you to set up a profile for each specific game. This can be incredibly useful and can save you a lot of time, especially if you plan on playing multiple titles with specific settings saved for each.
Still, in my opinion, there is another option that makes it stand out more. It is known as surface fit. The mouse analyzes the surface below and determines the best settings for it, maximizing performance. This feature has been proven to deliver excellent results whether you use a mouse pad or not.
Sure, it should work better with Logitech mousepads, but it will work with others, too, regardless of the manufacturer in question. Of course, if you stick with Logitech’s, the settings will probably be easier to perfect as they come with certain presets for those products.
First of all, if you’ve been using the Logitech Proteus Core, the new Proteus Spectrum fits like a glove. However, even novice users will quickly learn how to get the most out of this beast.
The mouse itself is made of soft, textured plastic, which gives it a premium feel in the hand. Interestingly, the scroll wheel almost feels like it’s made of metal, but I’m not quite sure if that’s the case.
As we mentioned, Spectrum comes with 11 programmable buttons, all of which are easily accessible. I won’t bore you with details about the specific function each button has from the start.
Partly because it’s a bit boring, but mostly because you’ll probably change it anyway once you’ve installed the Logitech software.
Logitech G502 for Gaming
Ah, finally we get to the part that most of you have probably been waiting for all this time. To be quite honest, if you have a mouse with these capabilities, it would certainly be a shame not to use it to its fullest and spend it on Microsoft Office and just answering emails.
Of course, most future users are fully aware of this, I’m sure.
With a 12,000 DPI range and a plethora of settings available, it’s no wonder this mouse is absolutely insane when it comes to gaming. I recommend that you go through most of them and find the one that suits you best.
It will take a while at first, but once you hit the sweet spot, it feels like absolute perfection.
Each button has the correct amount to give and is clickable, which is important in fast-paced games. With up to 11 different functions available, you’ll hardly need to use the keyboard when the Spectrum is by your side.
Joking aside, I really recommend that you learn to use each button as effectively as possible and leave the keyboard alone for walking.
If you just moved from the regular $10 mouse to this thing it will definitely take you a while to get used to, but fear not, it will arrive sooner than you think. Once that happens, you may wonder how you didn’t do it before.
It goes without saying that no device can be great in every way, and that includes this mouse. I also have to mention some of the negative aspects of this device otherwise they will probably accuse me of being a paid promotion.
Which it isn’t, if I don’t mention it so far. I really like this mouse.
But even I noticed that the right side of the mouse has a sharp edge that takes some getting used to. Other than that, the only negative I can think of is the price.
Yes, I know it can’t be free, but it’s still a bit steeper compared to some of the competition.
When the only downside you can think of is the slightly higher price, you know that the device in question is a hit. When it comes to G502 Proteus Spectrum, all the boxes are checked. It looks insanely good, fits like a glove in the hand and is packed with all the latest features you can think of.
If you are a gamer you must try this. Before you know it you buy it.
Hell, even if you’re not a gamer, you probably know someone who is, and this device can make a great gift. Either way, you should eventually buy it. it’s so good.
