Why Do People Like Fortnite So Much?

Is there a support group for parents whose kids are addicted to Fortnite? What’s so fascinating about this video game that in March 2021, approximately 250 million adults and adolescents were glued to a computer screen?

That’s a significant number of players since the game was released in 2017. When I heard my teenage years mention Fortnite; all that came to mind was Shakespeare’s word for ‘two weeks’.

My video game concepts are reminiscent of Jurassic Age, like Pong. So I decided to do some research into this fascinating alternate reality that is Fortnite, to find out why people like Fortnite so much.

Why Does Fortnite Have So Many Players?

When I was a kid, video games first came on the scene and they were quite expensive. Like today’s engineering masterpieces, they required an expensive game console, controllers, and individual games.

To play Fortnite, all you need to do is sign up. Did I mention it was free?

It’s no wonder so many people have joined the Fortnite army. Players do not need to purchase a special gaming system and are not limited to playing games on television or the computer.

Since people can even have Fortnite battles on their cell phones, I now understand why my kids are always on their phones and never call anyone. I won’t complain as it will keep you busy and quiet on long car journeys.

The Fortnite developers haven’t released an updated player count yet, but I’m sure the list has grown a lot.

How Much Money Does Fortnite Make?

Just because Fortnite is a free game doesn’t mean it’s a good cause. Sources reveal that during its first year of launch by EPIC Gaming, Inc., the gaming platform raised approximately $1.2 billion.

As of 2018, they generated another $2.4 billion. I checked my bank statements to make sure my teenage players weren’t adding more to their loot.

True to the word of the developers, the game is free, with no fine print. How does this video game make such a fortune?

While players can enjoy playing basic Fortnite without spending a dime, they have the option of “upgrading” or microtransactions. To enhance your gaming experience, Fortnite offers its fans a variety of optional bonuses that can be purchased with V-bucks.

The game has several V-buck package deals; however, gamers generally get about $120 V for $1. My young video warriors were quick to tell me that with the ultimate package, they could upgrade as much as they wanted.

Kids think money grows on trees, especially when it comes to these games.

How do you get free V-bucks in Fornite?

For those whose family budget doesn’t include a large Fortnite V-buck stipend, there’s always a chance to win free V-bucks. The only way to do this is to buy Fortnite’s Save the World update, which should cost only a small amount.

This program allows players to earn V dollars legitimately by logging in or winning challenges. Although Fortnite’s Save the World is a single player edition, its benefits can be used for the usual combat style.

When one of my kids wanted me to buy him a new Fortnite skin, I assumed he wanted a new case for his cell phone. Turns out these are custom costumes for your animated heroes.

Do these purchased costumes or skins give players an advantage? My research showed that they are cosmetic. Of course, my family of players wants their Fortnite fighter dressed up for the occasion.

There are a multitude of these standout outfits to choose from, costing 800 to 1200 V-Bucks or more.

Serious Fortnite players insist on purchasing the Battle Pass, which is the way to unlock over a hundred game levels and earn additional new skins and accessories. Each season (version) of Fortnite has a Battle Pass with a new list of coveted prizes.

With three teenage Fortnite enthusiasts, it’s easy to see how this could affect my budget. I can already hear the cash register ringing in my head.

What is Fortnite’s Game Style?

Fortnite is an opponent survival game suitable for teens and adults. In the main mode, Battle Royale, players are placed in different environments to fight each other.

They build structures and use a variety of weapons to kill their opponents and be the last to survive. Thanks to the internet, gamers can play remotely with friends or players from all over the world.

As they progress to different levels, they learn new skills and face greater challenges. Each game can be played solo, duo or squad (up to 100 players) on the same level.

In the Save the World version, players fight alone against a zombie apocalypse.

So Why Do People Like Fortnite So Much?

I’ve watched my kids engage in a Fortnite battle, and it’s still one of their favorite games. So what is it about Fortnite that is so addictive?

Fortnite is not only free and compatible with most devices, it is also a well-developed game. The animation and sound are brilliant and keep the players’ attention.

With every win and level, players are rewarded with new weapons and challenges, plus a chance to earn V dollars for skins. As with slot machines in Las Vegas, players feel compelled to continue with the fun and chances of winning.

Whether Fortnite enthusiasts are at home, on a break from work, or on vacation across the country, they can log in and continue their quest for victory.

As a parent, I understand that this game for teens is not as violent as other games in the same category. From time to time I will use the purchase of V-dollars as an incentive for my gang to get good grades or to engage in hobbies other than games.

Like most parents do, we regulate how long our teens can play video games each day. With the eleventh season on the horizon, Fortnite remains a family favorite.
